On December 6th, 2025, I was out in Newcastle with my niece. We headed to a bar that was supposed to be the place to be. We got there, and it was completely dead.
Later, standing out in the cold, we asked the same question everyone asks on a night out: "Where do we go next?"
Nobody wants to walk aimlessly between venues, hoping to get lucky. I realised the system was broken. Nightlife moves fast, but we were all still relying on static reviews and guesswork. Why wasn't there an app that showed you the real-time atmosphere—a Waze for nightlife?
In that moment, BARZ was born.
I’ve worked in IT since 2010. I understand logic, systems, and problem-solving, but I had never built an app before. That didn't stop me.
I secured the domain 48 hours later, taught myself to code, and built BARZ from scratch. No massive team, no crazy funding—just late nights, relentless focus, and the belief that if I didn't build this, it wouldn't exist.
BARZ isn’t just about finding the loudest club. It’s about removing the anxiety and friction of the unknown. As someone who prefers not to be in overcrowded environments—and as a parent of a neurodivergent child—I know firsthand how overwhelming nightlife can feel.
